And in December 2025, Anthropic donated MCP to a new entity called the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation — the same organisation that governs Kubernetes, PyTorch, and Node.js.
The founding contributors read like an AI industry roster: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Block as co-founders, with support from Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare, and Bloomberg. Trace, a Y Combinator-backed startup, raised $3 million for workflow orchestration that maps complex corporate environments so AI agents have the context they need to scale. What to Do Now
The MCP ecosystem is mature enough for production enterprise deployment. Here's how to start capturing value from it.
Inventory your enterprise integration landscape. Map every system your AI applications need to connect to — document stores, databases, CRMs, ERPs, communication platforms. For each system, check whether an MCP server already exists in the registry. With over 10,000 published servers, there's a strong chance your most common enterprise tools are already covered.
Evaluate your current AI integrations. If you've built custom connectors for existing AI deployments, assess which ones could be replaced with standard MCP connections. Each replacement reduces maintenance burden, improves reliability, and makes your AI infrastructure model-agnostic.
