Friday, February 27, 5:01 PM — The Pentagon deadline passes. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security. The designation means no contractor, supplier, or partner that does business with the US military may conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic. Hegseth called it “final.”
Friday evening — OpenAI signs a Pentagon deal for classified networks. Hours after the Anthropic ban, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on X that the company had reached an agreement with the Pentagon to deploy its models in classified systems.
